Keep a Journal to improve your kit!
Happy Friday! Are you headed out for adventure? I often get asked exactly what weekend adventure supply I bring on a quick trip. Here you go! I tend to be the guy that wants to get out quickly and doesn’t have too many requirements so keep that in mind when reading the list. Another thing that is extremely useful to me is a journal. Each time I go out, I make a note of what I wish I had, and what I didn’t need. That way, my kit is improved with every trip!
I hope you are headed out this weekend!

Cases I Use:
Plano Cases
Thank you for this!!
You bet Tom!
What size cases do you use?
I updated the post with a button to the cases I use!
What are the dimensions of your boxes? I ask because the link you posted has different dimensions in the product title and in the product descriptions. The product description shows the same dimensions as this item http://www.walmart.com/ip/Plano-Molding-1819-XXL-Storage-Box/20893857. Assuming the dimensions are the same the only difference I can see are that yours have wheels and the one I found does not. Can you confirm? Thanks!
I just wanted to followup. I was able to confirm both links are the same box so if you are patient you can get them from Wal-Mart for $22. Additionally, if you buy $50 worth of stuff at the same time you get the boxes shipped for free to your door! Best deal I’ve seen.
This all wrong! There is nothing in here for Momosas!
Hahahah! When you are right, you’re right!
Thanks for this great list to start off with.
Nate
@4x4nate You bet Nate! Just a place to start!
I don’t see beer or whiskey.
Thanks Michael! I’m a guy that needs a list and this helps out a lot!
Your rig fits under a fast food drive thru?? I’ll crawl over a boulder..but crawl under a drive thru window overhang no way! Gotta brave the elements and walk-in to my burger joint

what kind of kitchen , is this something pieced together , or purchased as a kit? I have seen several shots of it, and your rapid deployment , so it may be of interest to others . Also, what /who are the musicians you use for sound tracks..I missed the credit page on your otherwise flawless work /videos. Thanks, I surely enjoy this.
Hi Michael – the folding kitchen is actually an REI unit. Everything else is put together over time. The cases are Plano cases. I use different music on my videos, but the main title is “Back in Business” by AC/DC. I use a lot of Avett Brothers, Van Halen, and a mixture of modern pop songs. Hope that helps!
I’ve seen your packing and unpacking video where you put the plano cases on the roof rack. What do you have in the back of your rig? Is the back full? I ask as I’ve always been told that loading the roof is a no no.
Hi there @hussaib !
I usually have plenty of stuff in the back as well, but in general, prefer to keep it clear for passengers. I load the roof plenty with no apologies. Love the roof rack!
Van Halen, I may be in the right place!
@michaeldanger – Oh I think you are!
Ideal set up. We have almost everything that you have mentioned and on 17-19 April 2015, my girlfriend and I are going to do our first trip. Your list has helped confirm that which we already have and gave us pointers on what we’re missing. Thanks a lot.
@shane_oneil Thanks man…and you are very welcome! I highly recommend the notebook. keep a record of what you used, and what you didnt need and continually refine your list. If you do that, it will just get better and better!

I have a question. My wife and I are really wanting to know what coffee mugs you guys use on your trips? They seem so practical for travel use.
@Martin Those coffee mugs are efficient if you are talking about the GSI Outdoor mugs. Take a look here. Is this what you mean?

@administrator Michael…I just got my Plano storage box and the camp chairs I currently have does not fit inside. What brand of chairs you have or know that will fit the Plano box? Thanks
Hi Ed!
I have 3 REI folding chairs. The chair Container is the tightest fit for sure. My chairs have to go diagonally, or along the top. I can fit three. I’ve been thinking of switching to different chairs though. Mine are average.

How do you keep dust and water out?
These are not dust and waterproof, but they are resistant. You could add a gasket, make one, but that’s a DIY project.
Hey Michael quick question… How do you store your water? Seems like 2 Gal per person/ per day, would be more efficient to store in individual gallons or do you go with the individual small 16-20oz water bottles?
BTW love how you have everything set up, was just he article I needed to organize my rig
We usually travel with 20 Gallons and fill up as needed. Two 5 gallon cans on the outside of the vehicle, one on the inside, and a few smaller drink containers. If we were traveling where we could not get water, I would probably do something as simple as increase the number of cans I carry internally before switching to a fancier external tank. There are a wide variety of options available for more money, including stainless steel tanks internally or externally.
New Overlander here, thanks for this
